Definition of ‘ERC 1155’ - ERC1155, is the short form for “Ethereum Request for Comments 1155”. It is a token standard mainly used for NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
What is ERC 1155?
ERC 1155 Definition - ERC 1155 is a recent development in the Ethereum Blockchain. It is a new token that aims to change the way DApps operate within the blockchain.
The introduction of this standard token has improved user experience and programming. The standard token serves as a storage front for tokens that mimic the features of a real token.
This is enabled by its multitoken capacity and some other features that serve as upgrades.
The ERC 1155 standard was developed by Andrew Cooke, Witek Radomski, James Therien, Philippe Castonguay, Eric Binet, and Ronan Sandford.
It is fully described in the EIP 1155 form. (Ethereum Improvement Proposal). The ERC 1155 is, however, similar to other standards like the ERC-20 y and ERC-721.
How Does ERC 1155 work?
Just as the ERC-20 and ERC-721 token, the ERC 1155 maintains a simple operation pattern where a smart contract interface is created to represent and control any number of fungible and non-fungible token types.
However, it is better than both standards in that it has an improved functionality that corrects some of the inefficiencies of the ERC-20 and ERC-721 standards.
ERC-1155 combines the functionality of ERC 20 and ERC 721. It allows for the existence and operation of multiple tokens at once.
So, it deals with both more fungible tokens and non-fungible tokens, all within the same contract.
This promises simplicity in the development of DApps where both types of tokens are used. In this vein, it also improves security.
Another peculiarity to the ERC 1155 is that massive transfers can be initiated with its standard.
This is an upgrade to the ERC 20 and ERC 721 standards. This upgrade feature reduces possible transaction costs, and the impact on the network.

While ERC 1155 can create both fungible and non-fungible tokens, ERC 721 is limited to non-fungible tokens. Besides this, ERC-1155 allows for faster transfers as token transfers are made in batches. However, ERC 721 only processes token transfers individually.
